KIDS GET COOKING
|
The year 11 pupils all studying at Don Valley School and Performing Arts College in Doncaster were thrilled to meet Andy who along with Mark Turner, Head Chef at The Wortley Arms, presented them and Head of Technology, Joyce Gregrory with the books.
Each book has been selected to help educate the students about seasonal produce and regional food as well as teach them new techniques and give them the inspiration to experiment with different ingredients and flavours to make their cooking exciting and fun.
Andy said: "It's great to see that more and more young people are becoming interested in cooking and the days of it being a school subject that only girls should be concerned with are long gone. The rise of the "celebrity chef" has made the idea of becoming a chef cool again, and as a result there is an abundance of great cook books out there that offer a modern and fresh approach to food, hopefully the books we have chosen for the school will give the students plenty of new ideas and encourage them to continue their love of cooking throughout their whole lives."
Joyce Gregory added: "People like Andy and Mark really inspire the students and the first hand knowledge and experience they can impart really makes a difference. The selection of books Andy has given to the school will be invaluable in helping the students to move forward in their practical skills." |
